Here we have for sale on behalf of a customer early XR3i with just over 47000 miles on the clock and three owners from new. Being an early injected model this car has the older 2 bolt strut mounts and was originally supplied with SVE modified suspension. When the XR3i was introduced in October 1982 one of most significant updates was the refinement on the XR3s slightly unusual suspension geometry. SVE modified existing suspension components to remove the XR3s negative and positive camber together with lowered ride height and a change to spring ratings. Following the success of this modification on early cars Ford changed the shell for the whole Mk3 range from May 1983 onwards. Although no longer fitted the original SVE modified front struts are supplied with the car.

 

History

UK car first registered on 1st January 1983 and supplied by Fewsters Garages in Hexham. The car has spent almost all of its life in the Newcastle area and has good history. The first owner had the car for 18 months before selling it privately to the second owner in August 1984. In 2019 the car was subject to some bodywork restoration and repainting through a dealer in Darlington before being purchased by the third and current owner in July 2020. At this point the car was subject to a comprehensive mechanical rebuild before MOT at Harrisons Ford Centre in Peebles on 7th May 2021.  It has just passed another MOT at Harrisons Ford Centre on 29th April 2022 and will be tax and MOT exempt from next year.

 

Bodywork

Partly restored and repainted with NOS Ford panels used where possible. Sills front panel rear panel and wings have been replaced although the wings are aftermarket rather than NOS Ford. There are some local repairs underneath and at the bulkhead / battery area are all done to a good standard. The underside is painted or undersealed. Panel gaps alignment, etc are all good and one key operates all doors and ignition. Other than the windscreen which has been replaced at some point the registration number is still etched on every window the rear lights and the front lights. The front lights were replaced as part of the rebuild in 2021 although the originals are supplied with the car. Slide / tilt sunroof works correctly.

 

Mechanics

Engine and gearbox are standard and operate correctly. Almost all suspension components were renewed in 2020 / 2021 including Bilstein struts Spax adjustable rear dampers Spax 25mm lowered springs Compbrake adjustable TCAs new rear wishbones and new bushes. Fuel exhaust and cooling new components include radiator Bosch fuel pump K&N filter element Piper stainless steel exhaust Motorcraft fuel filter injectors and the injection system serviced and cleaned. Running gear and brakes include new discs pads shoes refurbished calipers new rear wheel cylinders brake hoses wheel bearings and track rod ends. All service items timing belt filters plugs leads oil etc renewed and other new components include tailgate struts and Ford battery. Components not renewed are either painted or powder coated. Wheels and Tyres

Standard Cloverleaf alloy wheels in good condition fitted with reasonable tyres. There is no spare wheel with the car but a fully refurbished set of four 15 inch RS 7 Spoke Softline Wheels, complete with new tyres and Ford wheel nuts, is available at additional cost. These have been on the car recently.

 

Interior

Standard interior in very good condition. There are a few minor cracks on the dashboard the plastic tilt handle is missing from the drivers seat (seat tilt still works correctly) and there is some wear to the drivers side lower bolster foam. The music system has been replaced with after-market items although the original Ford radio cassette player is supplied with the car (untested). All gauges, clocks, etc. work as they should except the fuel gauge, which is erratic with an empty tank showing a start point of half full on the gauge.

 

Running

Other than the fuel gauge, the car runs as it should with everything working correctly. Two original Ford keys are present.
